According to The Mirror, new Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has made it perfectly clear that he wants to keep Ben Gibson at the club this summer.

Ben Gibson is a major target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer but Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk is going to do everything in his power to block any move.

Ben Gibson is currently away on international duty with England and he could make his senior debut against France tonight in an international friendly match.

His recent call-up to the England squad is testament to how well he performed last year in a struggling Middlesbrough side, who were consigned to relegation after finishing second bottom in the Premier League.

It is unclear yet as to whether Gibson playing in the Championship will impinge on his international ambitions.

However, former Swansea and Leeds boss Garry Monk is very keen to resist Premier League interest and have Gibson as his star man again next season.

Liverpool are the latest club to be credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, who has attracted interest from a number of top flight clubs over the past few months.

As Monk looks to build a team capable of pushing for promotion, he wants Gibson to be at heart of his defence to lead Boro back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
