Serie B side Como are attempting to sign Reading forward George Puscas, according to an update from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (7/8; 11:28pm).

The Romanian is currently trying to secure a move away from the Berkshire outfit following an unsuccessful spell at the club, performing reasonably well at times during his first season at the club after joining in 2019 but failing to impress after that.

He scored just twice for the Royals last term despite appearing 27 times during the first half of the campaign as one of the first names on the teamsheet - and with that and Lucas Joao's return - he was loaned out to Pisa with a view to moving there permanently.

However, the Italian second-tier promotion chasers opted against making this move a longer-term one following their failure to win the play-offs, meaning Puscas was forced to return to the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Many sides have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old this summer including Cagliari, but no side has managed to secure his services yet, much to the frustration of the player and the club who are happy to facilitate a move.

Adding Shane Long to their squad earlier this summer, they may need another forward to arrive if Puscas does seal his departure.

The Verdict:

As long as the incoming transfer fee pays for the rest of the instalments that the Berkshire side need to fork out to Inter Milan, they should definitely be looking to offload him as soon as possible.

Coming in as the Royals’ record signing, he isn’t likely to be on a modest wage either so his departure could provide the green light needed to bring the likes of Sarr and Omari Hutchinson to the club.

Getting Sarr in could be crucial to the second-tier side’s survival hopes and with Liam Moore currently out injured, Puscas is surely the favourite to leave the club at this stage with no shortage of interest in his signature either.

He seems to have been a success in the Italian second tier, so this potential sale could be the ideal outcome for all parties. Getting a deal done quickly will be important though - because they will miss out on other targets otherwise.

If he does stay though, he will need to be played alongside someone else up top because when playing up front on his own, he struggles massively and that was showcased last season.
