Neal Maupay is set to return to training just days after being sent home from Brentford's pre-season tour, amid transfer interest from the Premier League.

According to the Evening Standard, the Frenchman will take part in training today, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Several clubs are rumoured to be interested in the 22-year-old, including Sheffield United, West Ham and Burnley from the Premier League, as well as West Brom.

Despite the speculation, there have not yet been any official bids for the 25-goal man, but there may have been a significant development over the weekend which caused his withdrawal from the Bees training camp in Austria.

That news, combined with the report that Brentford had reduced their asking price to £15m, suggested that Maupay was due to depart, but the fact he is returning to training seemingly means he is still part of first-team plans and could still have a future with Brentford.

The saga looks to be continuing but it looks increasingly likely he will remain at Griffin Park. Possible suitors Sheffield United have snapped up striker Callum Robinson, whilst West Ham are close to signing Sebastien Haller, which means it could be between Burnley and West Brom, although their interest has faded of late.

The Verdict

It is good news for Brentford fans to see their star man back in training, and after being given time off to get into the right mindset Maupay has hopefully put any transfer speculation to one side.

It is important Brentford hold onto one of their best players but it is also imperative they do not keep an unhappy player at the club. It is possible he could cause disharmony within the squad and if he doesn't want to be at the club it is very unlikely he will perform to his best standard.

Brentford have set out their asking price and are standing by it, which is good to see. He is so important to the team and if Brentford can deter interest in any way then they are right to do so, as long as Maupay is willing to stay.
