Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews has signed a new contract with the Canaries until 2019, the club's official website has confirmed.

The 23-year-old stopper has yet to make an appearance this season for the East Anglian club but has nonetheless seen his future tied down for a further two years, with the club also having the option to extend if they want.

Matthews though has made the bench this season on two occasions, and his manager Daniel Farke is delighted to keep him at the club, saying:

"I am really happy with this news. Remi is still young as a goalkeeper and has a lot of potential. He has faced a lot of competition this season but has a brilliant character and a great working attitude."

It's a positive move for Matthews, who has had two loan spells away from the club with Burton Albion and Hamilton Academicals respectively. He will be hoping to push on now and try and cement his place in the manager's plans further.

"I've been here for a long time now so I'm delighted. The boss has seen something in me to give me a new deal and I've got to get my head down." Matthews commented.

Norwich went through all of September unbeaten, and will be looking to kick on following the international break as they look to find a way back to the top flight under their new manager.
