Coventry City likely expected plenty of interest in striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer after the season he had last time out - and Besiktas are the latest to be linked with a deal for him, according to Fotomac in Turkey.

The Sky Blues soared towards the top end of the Championship table in the last campaign and it largely came down to the goalscoring prowess of the 24-year-old.

Last season in the second tier, he bagged a total of 17 goals and five assists in 41 starts for the side and became one of the most exciting forwards in the division. It led to an average of 0.55 goals or assists per 90 for the player in the season.

Gyokeres then has caught the eye then not just in England but across Europe too. Now led by former West Brom boss Valerien Ismael, it looks like he could be planning a raid on the division he spent plenty of time in for the striker.

The club are on the hunt for a new player to bolster their attack - and it appears that the 24-year-old is one of the targets on their list and they could potentially launch a bid for him.

Right now, it appears as though no official move has been made on the part of the club but if he is a target for Besiktas then they could soon try and swoop to bring him in.

Mark Robins though will not want to let one of his star performers leave already - and it might take a hefty bid from the Turkish outfit to convince the Sky Blues to let him leave.

The Verdict

Viktor Gyokeres has certainly looked impressive being given regular football for once and has certainly repaid Coventry with plenty of goals.

He could lead the line for a good few seasons now too if they can keep hold of him. He's proven that he can produce the goods in the second tier, so there is no question of his capabilities in the Championship and whether or not he would be able to repeat the feat again next campaign.

The 24-year-old hit double digits for the first time in the last campaign and the Sky Blues can certainly get the best out of him as they have proven. With him in their side, you would have to consider them as promotion candidates, especially if he can keep firing in the goals.

Besiktas would certainly improve their strikeforce if they could bring in someone like Gyokeres - but if they think they'll be able to land him for a modest fee, they might be mistaken on that front.
