Motherwell are keen to sign Barnsley winger Jordan Green on loan this month, a report from the Daily Record has claimed.

Green had made just 12 appearances for the Tykes since joining from National League side Yeovil Town last January, and has yet to feature for the club since the appointment of Gerhard Struber as manager back in November.

It is now thought that Struber is willing to let Green leave Oakwell this month as he looks to trim his squad, something that appears to have caught the attention of Motherwell, as they look to add another option to their squad in the wing positions.

But the Fir Park club are not the only side thought to be interested in the 24-year-old.

It has previously been reported that Motherwell's Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts - who are managed by former Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel - and a League One side, who have yet to be identified, are also interested in a move for Green.

There are currently 18 months remaining on Green's current contract with Barnsley, securing his future at the club until the end of next season.

The Verdict

This is a hard one to predict really.

The fact that Motherwell are in a much stronger position than bottom-placed Hearts in the current Premiership table, would on the face of things, make them a more attractive proposition for Green.

However, you do have to wonder whether the opportunity to work with Stendel again could tip the balance in Hearts' favour here, although he may also be tempted to remain in England, with whoever this League One side may be.

Whichever destination he does choose, it seems that Green - who will want more playing time - and Barnsley - who need to reduce their squad - will both be satisfied with the winger's exit.
