New Bristol City signing Kasey Palmer has sent a message to the Ashton Gate faithful after completing a permanent move back to the club from Chelsea.

Palmer spent the second-half of last season on loan with the Robins, becoming a hit with the fans, and has now put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal ahead of the new season.

Posting on Twitter alongside a series of photographs from his first day back at the club, the attacking-midfielder wrote: "Back for Good! My New Permanent Home. Buzzing to have signed a 4 year deal

@BristolCity. The ambition of the club matches mine & can’t wait to give everything to help the club get to the premier league. Thank you for all the messages."

The 22-year-old became a fan favourite over the course of his 17 matches in 2018/19 scoring two goals and providing one more assist.

He was snapped up by the Blues from Charlton Athletic's youth system back in 2013 for around £200,000 but has gone on to make no appearances for the first-team in that time, although he became a staple in the reserve side, scoring ten goals in 39 appearances.

The acquisition takes Lee Johnson's summer recruitment drive to a total of eight, following Tomas Kalas, Jay Dasilva, Daniel Bentley, Sammie Szmodics, Robbie Cundy, Tommy Rowe and Rene Gilmartin into Ashton Gate as they look to worm their way into the Premier League.

The verdict

This looks like an excellent move for everybody involved.

Palmer was clearly desperate to find a new home following a series of loan moves away from Chelsea and Bristol City were understandably eager to bring him in permanently.

The enthusiasm that he clearly has for the club is obviously a massive plus as well. Every promotion-winning team tends to have a positive atmosphere around it from the get go, so it bodes well for the Robins.
