A number of Sheffield Wednesday supporters were full of praise for the performance of Lee Gregory as he helped the Owls get back to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Wigan Athletic.

The Owls headed into the game aiming to get their campaign back on track after going four matches without a win in League One.

There was the chance that a defeat against a Wigan side who had won five games in a row in the league could have opened up a ten-point gap between the two clubs.

However, Sheffield Wednesday were excellent for large periods of the game, especially in the second half as they switched to a 4-4-2 with Gregory partnered by Callum Paterson upfront.

That pairing worked brilliantly well for the Owls, with Gregory offering the mobility and Paterson offering the physicality that you need in a front two.

The two forwards combined brilliantly for Paterson’s goal in the 60th minute, and that ultimately proved to be enough for the Owls to take all three points back to Sheffield.

In total, Gregory provided one assist, made one key pass, had two efforts on target and also won four duels.
