Middlesbrough’s hopes of a Premier League return are over following a play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa last night.

Tony Pulis’ side were beaten 1-0 on aggregate, with Boro disappointing over the 180 minutes of action.

The Teessiders failed to carry any real threat over the two legs, with Villa comfortable defensively, with Jedinak, Alan Hutton, James Chester and John Terry all superb in claret and blue.

In truth, it was Villa who carried the real threat, even late in the second-leg as Boro searched for an equaliser.

The scoreline could’ve been a lot worse for Boro too had it not been for Darren Randolph’s heroics in goal, with the goalkeeper pulling off two fine second-half saves from Lewis Grabban and Jack Grealish.

There wasn’t much praise for members of Boro’s squad following the game, but Randolph was the exception, with the goalkeeper receiving plenty of plaudits across social media…
