Jamie Hanson has signed a new two-year contract with the Rams.

The 22-year old's contract was due to run out at the end of the season, but the academy graduate was rewarded with a new contract by Rowett even though he has barely featured this season.

He has only made three league appearances this season with all of them coming in recent matches as a substitute to see out games.

Derby's defence and central midfield is ageing badly and needs rejuvenation at some point, so Hanson could potentially be the long-term solution for one of those roles based on the decision to give him a new contract. His versatility increases his importance because he can fill the needs of the team based on the issues with the squad such as injuries and suspension.

His new contract sparked mixed reactions from the fans with some believing that he isn't good enough even though he is from the academy.
