Luke Ayling continues to impress for Leeds United, with the right-back a regular feature in Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive unit.

Leeds are still unbeaten in the Championship under Bielsa, with Ayling impressing in his eight appearances so far this season, just as he has throughout his time at LS11.

It was Garry Monk who brought Ayling to Elland Road, with the defender an uninspiring addition from Bristol City in 2016.

However, he quickly won Leeds’ supporters over during the 2016/17 campaign, forming an excellent defensive unit with Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson and Gaetano Berardi.

Ayling was almost ever-present during Monk’s year at Elland Road, as Leeds finished seventh in the table.

The following year, under Thomas Christiansen, Ayling again featured regularly, with the 27-year-old consistent as Leeds looked to challenge for the play-offs.

His 2017/18 campaign turned out to be a frustrating one, though, with Ayling picking up an injury on New Year’s Day, which ruled him out until the final day of the season.

From there, Leeds’ season dropped off the face of a cliff, with the Whites missing their consistent right-back.

Now, he’s back in the side and impressing under Bielsa.

In total, Ayling has made 83 appearances for Leeds, with the popular defender even scoring his first goal for the Whites earlier in the 18/19 season.

It’s hard to imagine that such a key part of Leeds’ side was such an underwhelming signing back in 2016, but in our latest FLW Rewind, we take a look back at that reaction from some Leeds fans…
