Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has given his first interview since his official confirmation as boss on Sunday afternoon, with the former Wales boss declaring his delight at taking up the hot seat at The Stadium of Light.

The 47-year-old joins a Black Cat's side in dire need of help, with the former Premier League side staring back-to-back relegations firmly in the face.

The club lie bottom of the table with over a third of the season gone, and the squad assembled by former boss Simon Grayson in the summer has thus far not looked capable of maintaining its status in the second tier.

Coleman has a lot of work to do if he is to keep the Wearsiders up this season, starting with a solid run of results in the build up to Christmas.

Work is needed in the January transfer window if the club are to survive, but it is expected that Coleman will be forced to sell before he can buy, with Sunderland also in the midst of a period of financial instability.

Despite the challenge ahead of him, Coleman declared the Black Cats to be a ‘big club’, and fans took to Twitter to have their say on the task ahead of their new gaffer…
