Birmingham City have been forced to apologise to Aston Villa and star player Jack Grealish after this afternoon's incident at St Andrews.

Grealish was assaulted by a so-called supporter who ran onto the pitch, floored by a punch to the back of the head after just ten minutes or so of action.

The thug was arrested and carted off by police, but not before he celebrated his deplorable actions in front of the home supporters.

Grealish went on to have the last laugh, bagging as Villa won 1-0 to keep their play-off hopes alive, but the afternoon will leave a sour taste in the mouth of all decent football fans.

The Blues quickly put out an apology on their official website, vowing to ban the offender for life.

Plenty of their fans are unhappy too, with many claiming to be ashamed to follow the club after the incident. For every idiot within their support there are thousands who feel the same revulsion at the acts as the rest of the football world.

Here's a sample of the home fans reaction after the attack.
