Despite his team flying high in the Championship. Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has not been shy in expressing his view at his pre-match press conference, stating that rampant commercialism is 'destroying' football.

The Argentine called upon club owners, coaches, the media and fans to stop it happening when he raised his concerns about the future of the future of the game.

But is Bielsa right to say commercialism is destroying football?

We discuss.....

Yes, 100%

Football is a business now, it used to be a sport.

The Premier League started it, I don’t even watch it now. Couldn’t tell you who was top or bottom.

Football is about passion, beauty, unpredictability and sport.

Not being brought to you in conjunction with someone or other.

Louie Chandler

It is a necessary evil.

We would all like to see less advertising around our clubs but plenty of what we enjoy on the pitch would not be possible without it.

Destroying football is a bit over the top but it certainly dilutes it a bit.

Jay Taylor

Never a truer statement said.

Football is a corporate game - it is awash with money and money talks.

Gone are the days when football was for the fans, now it is about making money and earning even more.

I totally agree with Marcelo Bielsa’s statement.

He is a connoisseur of the game and the last of a dying breed. He is from an era when football was an art form and not a cash cow.
