Reading took a huge step towards Championship survival with a last-gasp winner against Ipswich at the weekend to keep them above the relegation places.

The Royals went in front when Nelson Oliveira finished clinically into the top corner, but they were pegged back late on with Gwion Edwards firing home from close-range to level the scores.

But after persistence from Reading's Yakou Meite, the forward sent Mo Barrow clean through and the Gambian made no mistake in firing home a late winner to give Jose Gomes' side a vital win.

Oliveira wasn't the most popular of players on the pitch for Ipswich supporters, having previously played for local rivals, Norwich City earlier in his career before making the loan move to Berkshire.

But the forward was subject of sickening chants from Ipswich supporters who referred to an incident where Oliveira suffered horrifying injuries to his face following a stamp from Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings.

Oliveira silenced those Ipswich supporters though and celebrated directly in-front of them following the opener.

The Portuguese striker took to Instagram to voice his pleasure at the goal and taunted the Ipswich supporters yet again.

Reading fans will be hoping that Oliveira can shake off his hamstring injury in time for a crucial game against Wigan Athletic at the Madejski Stadium this weekend.

If they can get a win there, then they have every reason to be confident of retaining their Championship status this season under Jose Gomes.

The Verdict:

He's becoming a fans favourite at Reading.

You couldn't have asked for a better option to have up front for the Royals and Oliveira is proving to be one of the signings of the season.

Reading supporters will be keen for him to sign permanently in the summer, and help fire them up the table in next year's campaign.
