Neil Warnock has suggested that Middlesbrough are now focusing their attention on signing a new striker.

The Teessiders have enjoyed a fruitful summer so far having signed players such as Joe Lumley, Sammy Ameobi, Lee Peltier and Uche Ikpeazu while FLW exclusively revealed that Matt Crooks could be the next man to join the club.

The new season is just a matter of weeks away and while Warnock has said that he's pleased with the progress that has been made in the transfer market, the suggestion now is that the club need to kick on and add some more attacking options to the squad.

Speaking to Teesside Live, Warnock said: “There’s nothing else to update on right now.

“We’re talking to two or three other people but it’s about getting them over the line.

“Nothing is ever straightforward - even medicals take so much longer now because they’re so much more thorough.

“But we’ve got two or three weeks left yet so we keep plugging away.”

He added: "The focus is absolutely at the top end of the pitch now.

“You can see we’re a bit thin at the moment aren’t we? We’ve only got the big man [Uche Ikpeazu] and Chuba, so we are a bit thin on the ground.”

The verdict

Middlesbrough are doing some great work in the transfer market.

Without spending huge sums, the club have been able to fill a number of gaps in their squad with plenty of time before the new season gets underway.

Of course there's still a lot of work for the club to do in the coming week with at least two forwards being a real priority for Neil Warnock's side, but it's a case of so far, so good for the Teessiders as they look to get their season off to a good start.
