Neil Warnock has revealed that the next 48 hours will clear up the situation surrounding Aron Gunnarsson and his persistent ankle injury.

The Icelandic midfielder missed over a month of action back in October but returned for games against Brentford and Barnsley in November.

However, the injury issue clearly wasn’t solved, with Gunnarsson missing City’s last three games including the impressive comeback at Reading last night.

And, speaking to Wales Online, the Bluebirds boss admitted the influential midfielder may require surgery. “Gunnars has had an injection now that could go two ways. Either it will rectify everything or he'll end up having an operation and missing a month. We'll know in the next few days."

In the worst case scenario, the 28-year old will miss the hectic festive period where Cardiff play five games between Saturday and January 1.

Whilst the team have coped reasonably well in his absence, Gunnarsson is a big player and one of many who are out injured at the minute.

Centre-back Sean Morrison added to that long list after going off in the draw at Reading last night as well.

The Verdict

Cardiff and Neil Warnock will be hoping for some good news after the injection as missing Gunnarsson for another month would be a big blow.

The team showed the spirit they have, along with quality, by coming back from 2-0 down last night however you wonder how long they can cope with this injury list.

The fixtures they have over Christmas are reasonably kind, but Warnock will know how demanding it is and will be desperate for the midfielder to be out there.
