Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock has revealed that he is hopeful of securing a deal for a free agent in the coming weeks.
Whilst the experienced boss has made changes to his squad over the past few months, Boro endured a frustrating deadline day as they missed out on a deal for Everton’s Yannick Bolasie.
That left some fans feeling the squad are short in certain areas, even if the side have gone on to pick up decent results since.
Obviously, Boro will have to wait until January to sign any players on loan or permanently from elsewhere but they can still do deals for individuals who are out of contract.
And, speaking to TalkSPORT, as quoted by Teesside Live, Warnock suggested that’s something the club are monitoring right now after injuries to key men.
“It’s disappointing because Ashley Fletcher is out for a few months, and then this week Britt Assombalonga got an injury, so we’re down to the bare bones really.
“Hopefully I might be able to bring a free transfer in in the next few weeks, I’m not sure of that at the moment, but we’ll have to see.”
These comments indicate that Warnock is confident of something happening and it’s clear that they need reinforcements in the final third if possible.
However, January is not far away so they can’t just sign someone for the sake of it, they need a player that improves the squad.
The team are picking up results and looking strong, so it will be interesting to see who the boss is targeting.
