Neil Warnock issues positive Cardiff City news ahead of huge Leeds clash

Cardiff City are battling hard at the top of the Championship, with Neil Warnock’s side just three points off of an automatic promotion spot with a game in hand.

The Bluebirds have been in excellent form thus far, and following their exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City, can focus their attentions solely upon returning to the Premier League over the course of the next few months.

Warnock was busy on transfer deadline day, bringing in the likes of Jamie Ward but allowing forward Omar Bogle to leave, and some fans will question some of the decisions made by their experienced boss in the final hours of the transfer window.

However the squad at The Cardiff City Stadium is now set, and Warnock must work with what is available to him as his side chases down promotion.

The former Sheffield United boss has been blighted by injuries this year, but confirmed that many of those absent from the squad are close to a return.

Lee Peltier and Matt Connolly are nearing a return, as is Craig Bryson who Warnock revealed is running pain free. Kadeem Harris is also closing in on a return, with the manager hoping to have influential midfielder Aron Gunnarsson fit ‘as soon as possible’.

The Verdict

Gunnarsson has been a huge loss for Cardiff in recent weeks, with the Icelandic international impressing in south Wales as Cardiff close in on a Premier League return.

Once Warnock has a full squad available his side will begin to turn the heat on promotion rivals Aston Villa and Derby, and Cardiff fans can expect a grandstand finish to what has been a whirlwind of a season.
