Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock has asked Duncan Watmore to be patient and wait for an offer from the Championship club before making a decision on his future.

Watmore is a free agent following his release from Sunderland at the end of last season, and is currently training with 'Boro, as he assesses his next move.

Warnock is evidently keen to secure a deal for Watmore, and is hopeful that the striker will give him the opportunity to do that, despite also receiving interest from clubs in India and Australia.

Speaking about the situation around Watmore following his side's goalless draw with Blackburn on Tuesday night, Warnock told the Teesside Gazette: "I hope he'll be in. He has a few offers in the pipeline he'll have to consider, but I've told him to be patient and wait for me."

It has previously been suggested that Watmore himself is keen on securing a permanent contract with Middlesbrough, after several months out of the game following his departure from Sunderland.

Having made it nine games unbeaten with that stalemate at Ewood Park, Middlesbrough are currently fifth in the Championship table, ahead of their trip to London to face Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

You would like to think 'Boro can still be confident about getting this deal done.

It does seem as though Watmore has made a positive impression during his time in training with the club, so he could be a useful asset for Warnock and co. were they to secure a deal for him.

Given the fact that Watmore seems keen on the move, there could well be reason for 'Boro to be optmistic over a potential deal.

Indeed, when you look at the form they are in right now, it is hard to imagine a player not wanting to play for them at the moment, especially given the prospect of a chance in the Premier League it could given, when you consider Warnock's proven track record of winning promotion from the Championship.
