Neil Warnock believes that he’ll be backed with funds in the transfer market this summer.
Middlesbrough are gearing up for a big summer as they continue to revamp the playing squad and push towards a promotion challenge next season.
The last couple of seasons have seen the Teessiders offload various high-earning players and this summer could be no different with the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher set to be out of contract at the end of the season.
Of course it remains to be seen what will happen with their future, but with plenty of work to do in building up the squad Warnock is confident that he’ll be backed by Steve Gibson as he looks to form a side that is capable of challenging at the top of the table.
As quoted by the Northern Echo, Warnock said: “I’ve just read it myself this morning. I don’t want to hear anybody criticise Steve Gibson while I’m here.
“I don’t know many people who would continue to do what he’s doing because of his love for the club. He’s an amazing man and I’m really proud to be working for him and to get the support I do.
“The fans should feel the same way. It just shows his commitment to the club and boy at this time, do we need it.
“We’ve cut-back quite a lot and he’s happy in that respect. He knows there will be a turnaround in the summer as well. He still wants to support me the best he can and he knows I won’t spent stupid money.”
Warnock added: “I’ve got to try to get the best players that are available, hopefully one or two will be on free transfers.
“You can pick good players up, everything has changed with the pandemic.
“The recruitment people know what I’m looking for. We have to come up with some answers.
“Steve is going to support me the best I can. We did get rid of a lot of big hitters last year, there’s quite a lot gone there and one or two others have their contracts up. We’ve just got to try to get to a workable situation, but to do that we have to get the fans back in.”
Quiz: 16 celebrities that support Middlesbrough – But do they really?
It’ll be very interesting to see what Middlesbrough do in the transfer market this summer.
Neil Warnock has put the foundations in place for a very successful season next term, however they do need at least four or five good additions to have a chance of challenging for the top six.
Warnock will know who he wants and so it’s great for the club that he’ll be backed in the market by Steve Gibson.
