Neil Warnock is hopeful of signing two or three new players before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Teessiders have enjoyed a really busy pre-season so far after adding a total of six new arrivals to Middlesbrough's first team squad including the likes of Joe Lumley, Sammy Ameobi, Lee Peltier, Uche Ikpeazu, Matt Crooks and the exciting addition of Martin Payero.

After losing several players at the end of last season it seems that Middlesbrough's squad is still a little bit thin, and according to Warnock, there could be a few more additions to top off what has been a very exciting summer for the club.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, as quoted by Teesside Live, Warnock said: "We’re a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but they’re a good group of lads. We’ve got to try and have some fun this year.

“We’re looking to have a good go and we’re hoping to get a few more lads in before the window closes.

“Sammy hasn’t trained, he has an injury at the moment which doesn’t look good.

“Other than that, the lads that have come in have done really well. They are not glamorous signings but they are what you call bread and butter signings.

“We have got Payero who we are hoping to sign. We’ve got him over here now, a midfield player we are quite excited about.

“Two or three others we’ve been close to a few times and I’m sure we’ll get them before the end of the window.

“It’s just an exciting time and I think everyone is really looking forward to it.”

The verdict

It's been such a promising summer as far as Middlesbrough are concerned.

The club needed to bring in some proven Championship players in order to bulk out their squad and thankfully they've been able to do that while also keeping an eye on the finances.

Neil Warnock has aspirations of securing a top six finish this term and based on the business done it's hard to rule them out of the race to do just that.

Time will tell if they have what it takes to challenge for promotion but with a couple more signings there's no doubt that they'll be in contention.
