Neil Warnock has called for calm as his Middlesbrough side look to continue their fine form at Blackburn tonight.

The experienced boss is seeking another promotion from the Championship and with Boro unbeaten in eight and sitting in the play-off places, there will be many backing Warnock to deliver again.

However, whilst he praised the players when speaking to the official site, he insisted it's far too soon to get carried away given tonight will only be the tenth game of the campaign.

"Let’s not get carried away. We’re not a quarter of the way through the season yet. I’m just really enjoying watching these lads. I think they’re surprising themselves. It’s amazing what every player has in their locker.

"We’ve got some good players at the club, we’re are a bit short in numbers, but we are competing so much better than we did last season. The lads know they can give everyone a game."

The Teesside outfit could potentially end the night in the automatic promotion places depending on other results, although they are sure to be tested by a Rovers side who are the top scorers in the division.

The verdict

This is very sensible from Warnock as he knows just how tough the Championship is and it's far too soon to get carried away as things can change very quickly.

But, the optimism surrounding Boro is perfectly fair and the players and the boss deserve huge credit for how they've started the season.

It's a cliché but they just need to focus on the next game, which is a tough one at Ewood Park tonight and the table will start to take shape by Christmas time, but in Warnock they have the perfect manager to win promotion.
