Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock is confident his side will compete in the top-flight next season after they secured a memorable promotion on the final day of the Championship.

Despite being held to a goalless draw at home to Reading, Fulham's 3-1 defeat at Birmingham City meant the Welsh side took the second automatic spot ahead of the Londoners.

It capped off a remarkable season for Warnock and the Bluebirds who had an inferior budget to many rivals in the league.

Obviously, that will be the case even more so next season but the experienced manager told the BBC he is confident his side can upset the odds once again with their style of play.

"We'll be odds-on favourites to be relegated but were 33/1 to get into the play-offs [this season], never mind promotion."

"I know we're not easy on the eye. You knew you'd get criticised at times in certain games, but you can only work with what you've got."

"I'm really proud to have built a team capable of ruffling a few feathers when I look at the teams below us in the division, with their budgets."

The Verdict

This was a superb achievement for everyone connected with the club and Warnock deserves huge credit for making this possible.

They don't have a budget to compete with some sides in this division but the former Sheffield United boss has created a side with a real togetherness, clear identity and massive determination.

Cardiff aren't easy on the eye but they are very difficult to play against and many Premier League sides will find that out next season.
