Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has admitted he is considering playing Danny Ward and Robert Glatzel up front together ahead of his side's clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bluebirds' boss has chosen to play Glatzel as Cardiff's lone striker in his team selections so far this campaign, but it now appears there could be a change of strategy following Ward's recent form.

The former Rotherham man has netted three goals in four substitute appearances since his return from injury last month, with two of these goals coming in the 20 minutes he played during Cardiff's recent 4-2 defeat at The Hawthorns.

Ward's impressive streak has seen him overtake Glatzel in the goalscoring charts with Cardiff's summer signing having only scored twice, and the two could now start as strike partners on Friday night.

Cardiff will be looking to extend their unbeaten home record to six matches when they welcome the Owls to the Welsh capital, and Warnock has confessed he is considering a change of formation ahead of the encounter.

Wales Online reporter Glen Williams shared the update via his Twitter account on Thursday morning:

This would be the first time Glatzel has been accompanied up front since his £5.5million switch from Heidenheim over the summer, while Ward is pushing for his first Cardiff start since May.

The Verdict

This would be a bold move from Warnock if he presses ahead with it, but it would surely be a popular move among the fans and could well work to get the best out of both players.

Glatzel has shown flashes of quality since his arrival at Cardiff, but he has sometimes looked isolated up front. He could start to thrive if he starts working with an in-form striker partner such as Ward.

It would be difficult for Warnock to not include Ward in the starting line-up following his recent goals from the bench, so this appears to be the best solution in order to satisfy both players.

The fact Cardiff have looked so strong at home this term also means that Friday's match should be a good time for Warnock to experiment with this bold tactical switch.
