Neil reveals details of Jordan Hugill’s Deadline Day departure

After a January transfer window full of rumours linking him with a move to other Championship clubs Preston North End eventually lost talismanic striker Jordan Hugill to the Premier League, joining West Ham United.

According to the BBC, the deal is worth around £10m, which is a club record sale for Preston, which helps soften the blow Alex Neil has suffered in losing his main striker without any time to replace him before the window slammed shut.

Former Norwich boss has lifted the lid on the nature of Hugill’s departure, and responded to rumours that Hugill reacted poorly in order to force a move.

The Verdict

Neil’s words show that Hugill is as honest off the pitch as he is on it. It looks like he was willing to get his head down and keep his form going even if he was denied a move to the Premier League and it shows the mark of the player.

I think Hugill will be hungry to succeed in the Premier League and that should see him make an impact.
