After a gutless 1-0 home defeat to Birmingham City last night, the Trotters were left bottom of the table after their fourth defeat in their last five matches.

Two points adrift of safety and with the least amount of goals scored in the league, Lennon showed concerns over their ability to get themselves out of the relegation battle in his post-match interview. When asked whether there is enough quality in his side, he said:

“I don’t think there is. There is a real lack of quality at times.

“We are relying on players to improve and make the most of the opportunities that come their way and they are not doing it at the minute.

“I think there are goals in us but we’re missing chances because of a lack of composure and that’s what makes a difference. Birmingham didn’t do a lot – they had a couple of opportunities and one set piece but we had chances to get back into the game and more."

The former Celtic boss then went on to say that the blame doesn't entirely fall on the strikers, as he criticised the final ball in their attacks.

“Our final ball is poor and you can’t give that to players. They need to do it for themselves.

"There was a lack of composure on the ball and a lack of conviction too. Our final ball was really poor when we worked the ball into good positions.

“The final ball was so disappointing. It was really poor but we will improve on that, we’re better than that. "

Bolton will now face Leeds United at the Macron Stadium on Saturday, in which both teams will see it as a must-win tie as Leeds sit just one point above the bottom three and Bolton surely needing a win to try and revive their season.

Neil Lennon's side currently sit rock bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated a meagre eight points from 12 league games.
