Cardiff City boss Neil Harris has heaped praise on defender Sean Morrison, saying that the 28-year-old has been 'outstanding' with him during his time in charge.

Morrison has struggled to get a look in to the side since Harris' appointment on the 19th November, only featuring for for a total of four minutes for the club, against Nottingham Forest.

The Bluebirds boss has preferred a centre-back partnership of Aden Flint and Curtis Nelson, with the pair starting in each of the four games that Harris has been in charge.

Despite things being difficult for the 28-year-old on the pitch since Neil Warnock's departure from the club, Neil Harris has told Wales Online of how important Morrison has been to have around the training ground.

"Sean Morrison has been outstanding and a leader in my first few weeks in charge," Harris said.

"He’s been brilliant for me behind the scenes as well as on the training ground and I know he wants to play."

Harris stated that he speaks frequently with Morrison to gauge opinion on how the dressing room are feeling, with the centre-back considered to be one of the team leaders at the club.

However, with Morrison being out of the side at the moment, Cardiff's manager has empathised, and has said it should give him the hunger to prove what he has to offer.

"It’s probably the first time at a club he’s found himself out of the side. With the experience he has got and leadership qualities he possesses, he will look at it as an opportunity to refocus himself, re-energise himself and go again."

Morrison has been at the club since August 2014, making 213 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring 22 goals.

The Verdict

It is a difficult situation that Morrison finds himself in, considering he was one of the first names on the team sheet under previous boss Neil Warnock during his time in charge.

Nevertheless, it is positive to hear the mutual respect Neil Harris has for Morrison, and he clearly acknowledges how important it is to have the 28-year-old around the training ground.
