Millwall manager Neil Harris has revealed that on loan Norwich City midfielder Ben Marshall will not return to The Den next season.

Marshall had previously been on loan at Millwall from Wolves during the second half of last season before moving to Carrow Road in the summer, but after just six appearances in all competitions for The Canaries, Marshall returned to The Den for a second loan spell in January until the end of the season.

The midfielder however has been unable to replicate the impressive form of his first loan spell with the London side, and was absent from the matchday squad for the final two games of the season.

Asked about Marshall's future after Millwall's defeat away to Wigan on the final day of the season by The South London Press, Harris simply said: "Ben Marshall won't be here next season."

Having only joined The Canaries in the summer, Marshall - who has also played for Blackburn, Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday in The Championship- still has three year left to run on his contract with the newly promoted Premier League side.

The Verdict

Given the expectation that Marshall's return was greeted with at Millwall, and the subsequent underwhelming performances, there is perhaps little surprise that he will not be returning to The Den next season.

That does however appear to leave Marshall himself in a somewhat difficult position. Given he has struggled to get much game time for Norwich in the Championship, it is hard to see him getting any now they have stepped up to the Premier League.

You feel he may have a busy summer ahead of him searching for opportunities elsewhere.
