Newly appointed Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has admitted that his decision to cut short his time in the Welsh capital as a player was a mistake that he regrets.

The 42-year-old was addressing the media in his opening press conference as Bluebirds boss, where he made the concession that he wished he had stayed at the club for a longer period as a player.

Harris left Ninian Park for the City Ground to join Nottingham Forest after making just three appearances on-loan at Cardiff, but has since stated that it may have been the wrong choice, according to the Nottingham Post.

He went on to make just over 30 appearances in three years at Forest, during an indifferent spell with the East Midlands side, which saw him loaned out to Gillingham, and his contract eventually terminated by mutual consent in 2007.

"I made a mistake not staying here longer.

"It's probably one of the only things I've really regretted in my footballing career so far," Harris said.

The Verdict

It is clear that Harris is already having to repair bridges, as Cardiff fans do not have short memories.

The comments may not go down too well with fans of Nottingham Forest, but it seems Harris is already trying to form a bond with the Cardiff fans, some of whom were not keen on his appointment in the first place.

Ex-Millwall manager Harris has got a big job on his hands, as Cardiff sit in 14th. His first game in charge of the Bluebirds is against Charlton this coming Saturday.
