Millwall suffered a surprise loss to Burton Albion on Saturday, after they controversially saw Jed Wallace sent off.

The midfielder was dismissed for a sliding challenge but the club have confirmed they will appeal the decision.

The ex-Wolves winger certainly caught Tom Flanagan but there were many surprised faces at the Den when a red card was produced, including Brewers boss Nigel Clough.

After the game, that was decided by a Marvin Sordell goal, Lions manager Neil Harris confirmed that they would appeal the decision.

We put notification of our appeal in while I was sat in the press conference on Saturday. The appeal went in immediately, having spoken to the referee. Hopefully he has reviews the incident and will support our decision to overturn it,” he told the South London Press & Mercury.

Wallace was dismissed just before the hour mark in a game that the hosts really dominated. Even after the red, Millwall had the better of it, but they couldn't keep Albion out.

The defeat leaves Harris' men in 19th position, although they are five points ahead of the relegation zone.

The Verdict

The Jed Wallace red card seemed the sort of foul that players commit every game knowing that it's a booking.

He slid in, caught the man and stopped him as he got away. There was no real malice to it, nor did he go in to injure Flanagan.

Whilst it should win an appeal, you never know with the FA, but Wallace has been Millwall's best player this season and he would be a real big miss if he is suspended.
