Neil Harris has provided an insight to his first impressions as Cardiff City boss following his confirmation as Neil Warnock's successor.

The 42-year-old was appointed as Bluebirds boss last Saturday following Warnock's departure earlier that week, and he will now be tasked with improving Cardiff's fortunes in the Championship this term.

The Welsh side are currently languishing at 14th in the second-tier table following an underwhelming start to the season, with their last outing seeing them lose 1-0 to local rivals Bristol City.

Harris has now had the last week to work with his side as they prepare to face Charlton at The Valley on Saturday, and Harris has now commented on his brief time at the club so far.

Speaking to WalesOnline, the former Millwall boss has praised the Cardiff players for their efforts during the week, while he also emphasised that he has been keen to get his methods across this week.

"Day one is about getting to know people, from the press conference to the staff. You have to get to know their attributes to work out how to move forward," he said.

"Then you get to know the players and what makes them tick. A lot of players are unsure when a new manager comes in, but you have to lift those spirits and get your methods across.

"The players have been outstanding, as you’d expect, it’s not a revolution, it’s trying to add my own thoughts on to it and let the players know themselves."

The Verdict

It sounds like Harris has made a positive start to life at the club, with it seeming as though he is striking a strong balance between continuity and making minor changes to the side.

The 42-year-old would have probably preferred to have the full international break to work with the squad, but he has still had a full week which means we should be able to detect his impact on the side against Charlton.

There would have been plenty of uncertain players within the Cardiff squad following Warnock's departure after three years, but Harris seems like a good choice to slot into the managerial role at this time.
