Neil Harris has stated that Josh Murphy still has a future at Cardiff despite the player dividing opinion amongst spectators.

The winger was fantastic during the Bluebirds' FA Cup fourth round defeat to Reading and will be disappointed to have lost the game despite scoring twice.

He hasn't been in the best form this season but is an impact player that needs to have the ball at his feet.

He produced great finishes for his goals last night and was alert on both occasions as he picked up on sloppy passes from the Royals.

Harris suggested that Murphy is a player that often divides opinion and insisted that when he plays like he did on Tuesday night, he is unplayable.

When asked if he still has a future at Cardiff, Harris told BBC Sport: "Of course he does.

"He divides opinion. That is ultimately what he is as a wide player.

"When he's hot, like he was against Reading, he's unplayable.

"And when he's not and when it doesn't quite come off for him, you can question how much he's done on the pitch. But that is the sort of player he is."

The Verdict

It's interesting to see Harris make those comments as a lot of Cardiff fans will feel Murphy has been very inconsistent and hasn't impressed since leaving Norwich.

He needs to continue to produce performances like the one he showed on Tuesday night and pick it up when the Bluebirds next play in the league.

Harris will want to see consistency from the winger and that will be key to him playing a part throughout the rest of the campaign.

It's not yet known whether Cardiff can make a real push for the play-offs, but if they do then they'll need players like Murphy to be match-winners.
