New Cardiff boss Neil Harris has spoken about his side's upcoming opponents Charlton Athletic, who the Bluebirds take on this Saturday in the 42-year-old's first game in charge.

One point separates the two sides in the table, with Charlton sitting in 11th, meanwhile Cardiff are in 14th. A win for the Bluebirds could take them into the top ten. Both sides have just one of their last five games in the Championship.

Cardiff boss Harris spoke to journalist Jonathan Oakes on the Sky Sports EFL Podcast, where he was asked about Saturday's opponents, and gave his thoughts, acknowledging the Addicks would be a tough first test:

"We play them [Charlton] at a time where they've not had good results recently. They started really well and carried that momentum from gaining promotion last season and we have to play on that on the weekend."

However, Harris is also aware that he has limited time to prepare for the fixture, and wants to first give priority to putting his stamp on the team.

"We also have to focus on ourselves and how we build ourselves. It's about picking the right formation, getting to know the players really quickly, getting to know the staff and knowing exactly what I want from them," he added.

"It's a game we go and really look forward to and have a right go at the weekend."

The Verdict

There are no surprises that Neil Harris has been thrown straight into the pressures of the job as soon as his appointment has been confirmed - that is football management.

He now has four days to get to know the players, and show them what he wants from them on Saturday. It will be a learning process more than anything else.

There is sufficient time to prepare Cardiff's players for the upcoming opposition, but the focus will be familiarising himself with the setup at the club, and getting to know the players and the strengths of the team.
