Millwall could welcome back two key players this weekend for their crunch match against Hull City.

Steve Morison and Lee Gregory could potentially play a part for Neil Harris’ men on Saturday when they take on Nigel Adkins’ side.

Gregory missed the draw with Bristol City last time out having been taken off in the stalemate with Bolton with a stomach muscle problem.

Morison was subbed off late on at Aston Gate with a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury picked up a few weeks ago.

Both have the potential to play this weekend with Harris speaking to the media ahead of the crucial match at the bottom of the Championship.

“Steve again can’t train this week. He had a hamstring problem last week but got out on the pitch. Can he do that again? We’ll have to see; we really don’t know.

“Lee is another one where there is no real clarity at the moment. His one is a stomach muscle injury which is untreatable because of the area. It’s one that has to just heal.

“If it’s a matter of pain threshold Lee will try to be fit for Saturday. But it could be a couple of weeks.

“We won’t know until later this week.

“I think what’s clear this week more so than ever is we take one day at a time. The scenario can change. We might not have a centre-forward available at the weekend, or we might have two."

Harris will monitor the pair, but should they fail to be passed fit in time, then the Lions boss will instead have to turn to the youngsters to be able to name a side capable of scoring the necessary goals to get the three points.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match to NewsAtDen, Harris divulged some potential team news should the pair be ruled out.

“I’ve got a treatment room full of centre-forwards at the moment.

“Tom [Elliott] is 6ft 4ins-and-a-half, and when he strains his hamstring, he strains his hamstring. He’s not training, and we’ll have to see how he progresses.

“Harry Donovan is training with the squad. James Brown, albeit we’re not short defensively, is a super player and has experience of league football.

“Lewis White was on the bench last weekend, though not quite ready to come in regularly and make his mark.

“Until you give a player an opportunity on the pitch you just don’t know. With the young lads, who knows?

“It might be the case at the weekend where we look at the young players and give them the opportunity."

The verdict

Well, Neil Harris has plenty of thinking to do ahead of Saturday’s clash with Hull City at The Den.

It is a mightily important fixture for both sides, more so Millwall who are currently in the bottom three of the division.

With Tom Bradshaw, Aiden O’Brien and Tom Elliott all certainties to miss out, Lee Gregory and Steve Morison could well be back - but how fit will they be?

It will be a gamble to play them, just as it would be to play the academy stars.

The safer option, to me, would be to play the young players and potentially have Morison and Gregory on the bench to come on if the worst case scenario becomes a reality.
