Bristol City teenager Saikou Janneh made a big impact for the Robins off the bench in their 4-3 pre-season victory against Forest Green Rovers last night, leaving many fans of the club excited.

The Robins battled back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at The New Lawn, with Adam Webster scoring a late winner.

Janneh has been credited by the Bristol Post as turning the game when he replaced summer signing Tommy Rowe after 63 minutes.

The 19-year-old forward played with a high-tempo and enthusiasm throughout, had a number of opportunities, won the penalty to take the game to 3-2, and may have got the last touch on the winner.

Speaking in a post-match interview posted by the club’s official Twitter account, Lee Johnson praised the young man.

He said: “I put Saikou on and I thought he gave us some natural enthusiasm that we needed.

“He ran around, put people under pressure and rallied the crowd a little bit–it was brilliant.

“I love him for that and that is what you want. You want players to play with spirit and in the last 20 minutes the spirit was very good.”

Janneh joined the Robins academy in May last year on the back of a successful trial and spent last season on loan at Torquay United.

He starred for the Gulls and his 18 goals and 14 assists in 34 appearances helped them win the National League South title.

The teenager signed a new four-year deal at Ashton Gate in June.

City’s pursuit of a new striker has been no secret this summer but following an impressive performance, Johnson may be considering whether Janneh can step up into that role.

He certainly caught the attention of many fans of the club, the majority of whom were quick to praise the forward on Twitter.
