Despite a promising run of recent form in the Sky Bet Championship, Reading are currently struggling to make the same kind of impact as last season, with Jaap Stam’s side failing to work their way into top-six contention.  

Last night, victory over Cardiff City could have given the Royals the belief that they could push on and challenge the top-six, but Stam was left frustrated at the Madejski Stadium once again, as his side surrendered a two-goal lead.

A Callum Paterson own goal and Mo Barrow’s deflected strike had put Reading in complete control, but late goals from Joe Bennett and Lee Tomlin recused a point for the Bluebirds, leaving Stam’s side 14th following the 2-2 draw.

Yann Kermorgant once again led the line for Reading as he steps up his return to full fitness, with the 36-year-old striker’s performance dividing opinion amongst Reading’s supporters.
