Sheffield Wednesday fell to their second defeat on the bounce against Shrewsbury Town yesterday and the performance of Middlesbrough loanee Lewis Wing has proven a talking point among many Owls fans.
Darren Moore will have wanted to see a response from his side after they were beaten 5-0 by Sunderland on the 30th of December but they came unstuck again against the Shrews.
Matthew Pennington nodded the home side ahead in the first minute of first-half stoppage-time at the Montgomery Waters Meadow and that goal was enough to ensure all three points belonged to Steve Cotterill’s team.
It was a difficult afternoon for all in a Wednesday shirt and it remains to be seen whether it could be the last time some of those players pull one on.
Moore revealed after the game that talks are ongoing about the future of some of their loan signings and that decisions could be made over the next week.
Wing is among those players, having joined on loan from Boro in the summer and struggled to win over the Owls fanbase.
Did Sheffield Wednesday do these 22 things in 2021?
Their patience appears to have run extremely thin with the former Rotherham United midfielder – as their response on Twitter after yesterday’s game shows…
So confused as to what has gone wrong for these 2 at #swfc other than seeing Moore as the only common thread.
Wing – standout performer for Rotherham and nearly helped them avoid relegation.

Shodipo came injured and is still injured, hardly the managers fault. Wing just isn’t fit enough

On a more positive note Luongo is back after the Plymouth game which means no more wing 😮💨

#swfc this team needs Hutch, Iorfa, Massimo, Windass back. Need rid of Wing, Johnson, Berahino, Shodipo.

#swfc I don’t want to see Wing, Johnson or particularly Berahino in my team’s colours ever again

Unfathomable that Wing and Berahino still get a shirt. Surely they’ve run out of chances now?
Hate to say it but Theo wasn’t on it either.
No style, no identity, no work rate. Seeing very little to convince me that Moore is up to the job.#swfc
