Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has slammed his side for their lack of goals in recent games but has promised that things will get better.

The club have had a thoroughly disappointing season but will be determined to build some momentum ahead of the next campaign under Jones.

“Eight goals in 13 matches is not good enough,” Jones told the club's official Twitter account.

“Not for any club let alone one of our stature. We scored three in our first two games here, but we haven't been consistent enough.

“We will be, but that will take time as I so often say. We need to be positive now and see where that takes us."

The Potters currently sit in 18th place with 34 matches played despite being made heavy pre-season favourites to be champions after a very strong transfer window.

But despite bringing in the likes of Tom Ince, James McClean, Ashley Williams, Sam Clucas and Benik Afobe, Gary Rowett could not get them going, leading to his sacking in January.

This weekend sees them welcome play-off hopefuls Nottingham Forest to the Bet365 stadium in what will surely be a tough match.

The verdict

Once again it is hard to disagree with Jones here.

Stoke should be scoring goals for fun with the players at their disposal and it has to be his priority over the coming weeks.

Confidence seems to be the main issue, because it certainly isn’t a lack of talent, so if Jones can inspire that they will be in a strong position for next season.
