With James Shea out injured for the unforeseeable future, and with Matt Macey and Harry Isted as the only current senior goalkeeping options at Luton Town, Nathan Jones has been searching for another shot-stopper at Kenilworth Road.

Eager to avoid a situation like last year, where they delve into the emergency loan market on a couple of occasions, Nathan Jones told Luton Today that he is hoping that another deal for a goalkeeper is 'imminent'.

Jones also outlined in conversation with The Lutonian that there could be as many as four outfield additions at Kenilworth Road in what remains of this summer.

Speaking to Luton Today about his goalkeeping options, Jones said: “The goalkeeping department, we want to strengthen.

“We’ve managed to bring Matt Macey in, god willing there's going to be one imminent as well, so we’ve now got three goalkeepers, plus James Shea who’s injured at this point in time.

“I would imagine in a week's time our goalkeeping department will be significantly improved from the two that we’ve brought in, plus Harry, plus the goalkeeping coach (Kevin Pilkington) who now has had time together with them as well.”

The verdict

Given Shea's situation, and the fact he is unlikely to return to fitness before the new year, it is no surprise that two goalkeepers are being Brough tin at Kenilworth Road this summer, as well as having Harry Isted as a third-choice.

Burnley's Will Norris is an option that has been connected to Luton, as per a report from journalist Alan Nixon, as it remains to be seen what can be done.

Jones will be a busy man over the next few days as he looks to continue assembling a squad that can challenge for promotion next season, with a trip to Slovenia beginning on Saturday.

The Hatters start their pre-season with a trip to Hitchin Town on Friday evening, with the club then swiftly moving on to Slovenia the following day.
