Luton Town manager Nathan Jones says that midfielder Luke Berry is the club's only fitness doubt for their trip to Deepdale to face Preston North End on Saturday.

It was a slow start to the season for Berry, who had to wait until September to make his first appearance of the campaign, after picking up a calf injury in pre-season.

Once he had worked his way up to full fitness however, the midfielder certainly made an impact, scoring four goals and providing one assist in seven league games so far.

However, the 29-year-old was forced off midway through the first half of Luton's 1-0 win at home to Hull last time out on Saturday, and it now seems that could keep him out of this weekend's trip to Lancashire.

Providing an update on his side's fitness situation ahead of that game, Jones was quoted by Luton's official Twitter account as saying: "Berry will probably miss out because of his knee injury but we're in a good place with everyone else."

Luton go into the game fifth in the Championship table, eight points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

The Verdict

This will no doubt be something of a disappointment for those of a Luton persuasion.

Berry has certainly been an impressive and important figure for the Hatters since his return to the side, so it will be a miss for him to now be absent again.

Indeed, having had to wait for his chance to break into the side this season, it will surely be frustrating for the midfielder himself to be back on the sidelines through injury.

Even so, Luton may still be confident of beating a Preston side who have been bellow par this season, and have had less time to prepare for this game after their exploits in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
