Stoke City manager, Nathan Jones, has opened up on the future of Badou Ndiaye after the midfielder stayed at the club due to his valuation not being met in the summer transfer window.

Badou spent last season out on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray but since coming back has failed to earn a place back into the Potters squad, as Jones admitted that the club recruited with the idea of replacing the 28-year-old.

It's yet to be seen what type of future Badou has at the club, but Jones has played it down, stating that the Senegalese midfielder is determined to play in a 'top league'.

Speaking to StokeonTrentLive, Jones said: "He wants to play in the top league, so we have a value on him and if that value was met we wouldn’t have stood in his way and we recruited to replace him because we thought that value would be met.

"He’s now a Stoke player and we are delighted. We believe a lot like Badou who didn’t move on are in our best 11.

"Only time will tell (if he's mentally ready to play again) to be brutally honest.

"He’s been used to playing in a top league and there’s nothing wrong with ambition.

"There’s been no offers and we move on."

The Verdict

Badou didn't have a good time at Stoke, having made 13 appearances in their relegation season, he will be seen as a flop by the majority of Potters supporters.

It'll be interesting to see whether Jones gives him another chance to prove himself to the management team, as he has shown previous qualities in his career that would make him a very capable player at Championship level.

The Potters need results fast and he might be someone that Jones might want to look at, who could help them turn their awful start around.
