Nathan Jones has claimed that it would not make any sense for Elijah Adebayo to depart Kenilworth Road this month, during an interview with Luton Today

Adebayo, who is enjoying an excellent Championship campaign thus far, has netted 10 times in the league, adding one more to his tally in the FA Cup against Harrogate Town last Sunday.

No concrete links away have emerged yet, however, the Chronicle Live confirmed that Newcastle United had sent scouts to watch Luton's home fixture with Fulham, a game that Adebayo shone in.

Speaking to Luton Today about Adebayo and his continued progression at Kenilworth Road, Jones said: "If anyone wants to come in for Elijah then we have a valuation which is extremely strong, so it would only need to be serious bidders.

"But we don’t anticipate Elijah going in this window just because it doesn’t make sense for us.

"It won't make sense for us on the pitch, off the pitch and if I’m honest, I’m not sure it will make sense for Elijah yet to jump this early without having the real tools behind him to go and impact the next level."

The verdict

Joining in February of last year, Adebayo is yet to play a full year of Championship football.

He has shown tremendous ability and has an incredibly high ceiling, with the 24-year-old progressing at an excellent rate at Kenilworth Road.

Adebayo offers more than just goals, as his physicality, movement and intelligence has been causing defences problems all season.

Ultimately, it would be no surprise to see Premier League club set their sights on the young forward, however, he will not come cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

In terms of his personal development, Luton does seem to be the best destination for him at present, as he is an integral figure and is developing at an alarming rate.
