Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has given an insight into his mindset following last weekend's home draw with Derby County.

The Potter's drew 2-2 with Phillip Cocu's men in a match that Jones felt his side did more than enough to win, and he reiterated those feelings in his press conference on Tuesday.

"I calmed down a bit after Saturday," Jones said ahead of the club's midweek clash with Preston North End on Tuesday, reported on the club's official Twitter account.

"Emotions run a little bit raw after a game but it felt like a defeat on Saturday because of how well we played.

"We have a good group and we just need a result to rubber-stamp everything. They are intelligent players and they are as disappointed as me with the start so far."

Martyn Waghorn gave the Rams a second minute lead at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday but goals from Liam Lindsay and Scott Hogan either side of half-time put the home side in control.

However, Waghorn nicked an equaliser for his side with 20 minutes to go from the penalty spot, to leave Stoke without a win and propping up the table with three matches played.

Everyone connected with the squad will be heading to Lancashire intent on taking all three points from Deepdale on Wednesday night.

The verdict

I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing for Jones and his team to be disappointed with the result on Saturday.

The fact that they were so disappointed with a draw against Derby is testament to just how much they have improved this season and you get the feeling that as soon as one win comes many more will follow.

Having narrowly lost to Swansea at the weekend, however, Preston will be determined to take three points as well, so Stoke will need to be wary.
