Stoke City manager, Nathan Jones, has stated that the only thing he asks the owners for is 'time' after what has been a poor start to the season.

The Potters currently sit bottom of the Championship table having failed to pick up a league victory in their opening six fixtures.

Jones' side have just one point, and will be hoping to turn things around starting on Saturday when Bristol City visit the Bet 365 Stadium.

The former Luton Town boss clearly accepts he's under pressure and has made a plea to the owners regarding his on-going future at the club.

Speaking to Stoke on Trent Live, Jones said: "It’s a big club with great fans, an ex Premier League club, then I met the owners and you should pick your owners, not your club.

"I work for them and I came here because yes, it’s a brilliant club, but I knew they wanted to change stuff and I wanted to do it, for them.

“They ask me every Thursday: `What do you need?' and I say: `Just give me time’, that’s all I ask. I don’t ask for a million quid. I don’t ask for a ride in his helicopter. I ask for time.

“That’s all I ask for. And we will change it.”

The Verdict

He has only been at the club for six months, but after such a poor start to the season he has to get some results in the next couple of games.

If he fails to find a first league victory in the next few weeks then it could be curtains for Jones, Stoke don't want to fall away this early into the season especially with pre-season ambitions much higher than where they are in the league at the moment.

Stoke fans need to continue giving him support, but anyone can understand their disgruntlement after seeing the results that the Potters have been picking up. Jones does need more time, but he must then go on and prove the owners right to give him more time.
