Stoke City have had a terrible week, but one player has come out with some credit from the Huddersfield game.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is one player who has impressed the Stoke faithful over the past week with his performances, especially against Huddersfield Town, giving manager Nathan Jones something to think about for the upcoming trip to Swansea.

Carter-Vickers, who is predominantly a centre-back, was put at right back for the game against Huddersfield and was tasked with the job of keeping Huddersfield Town hitman Karlan Grant quiet. Having only played there once before, Carter-Vickers looked the most sound defender out of the back four while also offering a threat going forward.

Speaking on the decision to play Carter-Vickers, Jones told Stoke Sentinel: “We felt their best player was Karlan Grant, so we put Cameron Carter-Vickers on him.

“Tactically it was a good decision and that’s why we did that.

“Tom Edwards has been going through a tough time in terms of errors and so on, so we pulled him out of the firing line a bit.

“We probably would have gone with Tommy (Smith), but Tommy’s an attacking full back and Karlan’s probably their best player, so we made a tactical decision and it worked.”

After a dominant display at right back, Carter-Vickers may be set for a future at full back, especially when Stoke need him during the tough games.

As Stoke look ahead to the trip to Swansea this weekend, Nathan Jones has a decision to make on who he wants to play at right back with Tom Edwards, Tommy Smith and Carter-Vickers all able to play there. With Swansea posing a more attacking threat, especially being at home, Jones may opt for young Carter-Vickers again in an attempt to nullify their attacking threat.

The Verdict

Cameron Carter-Vickers has struggled to really settle down at a club so far so this might now be his chance to. With not being in favour at centre half for Nathan Jones, it could be time to see him switch to full back in order to gain more experience and most importantly, get more game time.

With Carter-Vickers out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the season, now would be the perfect time for him to play regular and find his best position.
