Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has suggested that striker Tyrese Campbell could go on a run of form, after he managed to register his first league goal for the club in the Potters' crucial 2-0 win against Fulham and the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

Campbell retained his place in the starting line-up alongside Lee Gregory up front, despite Scott Hogan coming off the bench to secure Stoke's first win of the season at Swansea City before the international break - and the 19-year-old managed to prove that selection right by scoring the opening goal of the game against Fulham with tidy finish after being sent through on goal by Gregory's flick.

The Potters managed to hang onto the lead given to them by Campbell despite being put under spells of pressure by Fulham in the second period, before a penalty from Gregory sealed back to back wins ten minutes from time - and Jones' side will now be hoping to continue their momentum against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel ahead of the game against Sheffield Wednesday, Jones stated that he is hopeful that Campbell's goal can give him the confidence to go on a run of form, saying "I hope it does wonders for him because he’s earned his opportunity. He’s a young, athletic striker that’s learning his trade and wants to learn.

“He’s trusted us and we have trusted him. What he can’t do is get carried away and think he’s made it.

"We’ve got four strikers now who are really motivated. Scott Hogan has come on in the last two games with a zest to do really well, and Sam Vokes as well.

"If he keeps his feet on the ground, then he’s got a wonderful future ahead of him."

The Verdict

Jones has put a lot of trust and faith in Campbell's ability during the last few weeks, with the Stoke boss electing to start the 19-year-old ahead of both Hogan and Sam Vokes, despite the pair having much more experience which is something that a manager often turns to when their side are in a poor run of form.

However, the decision to bring Campbell into the starting eleven has paid off, with Stoke winning their last two matches to give themselves a platform to produce a revival from - and Jones has managed the situation with the striker well in the last two games bringing him off when he was beginning to tire for Hogan, who has also made an impact scoring the winner at Swansea and winning a penalty against Fulham.

Campbell, now needs to continue his form from the last few games and continue to make the same runs in behind opposing defences with his raw pace a real asset for Stoke to use - and with a manager who believes in his ability he should have the confidence to go on a run of form.
