Luton Town boss Nathan Jones has been the topic of conversation with Ryan Lowe recently, with the EFL pundit discussing why things didn't work out for him at Stoke City and how things are 'perfect' for him at Kenilworth Road.

Jones was the man that kick-started Luton's rise up the Football League, but when an opportunity to step up into the Championship with Stoke in 2019, he moved onto the bet365 Stadium.

The Potters were struggling in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League, with the Welshman helping his side survive in the 2018/19 campaign. However, a poor start to the following campaign eventually left Jones facing the sack.

Before the end of 2019/20, Jones was back at Luton, overseeing the Hatters' great escape in the Championship.

There has now been a positive start to the current campaign for Jones and Luton, with the Hatters sitting ninth in the table after last night's win against Rotherham United.

With Jones thriving with Luton, it's been raised why his spell at Stoke never really got going despite having such a talented group of players.

Discussing Jones with EFL on Quest, Lowe said: “I don’t know why it didn’t work out for Nathan Jones at Stoke, maybe there were too many big egos at the club and he tried to change too much too quickly, but he knows his philosophy and way of playing at Luton, it’s a perfect fit for him.”

Luton are just a point outside the Championship play-offs heading into this weekend's fixtures, with the Hatters going up against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Verdict

When you look at the fine, fine work that Jones has done with Luton, it's amazing he couldn't get a tune out of such a good Stoke squad.

However, certain people just seem to suit a certain club, which is the exact case with Jones at Luton.

He's got the Hatters punching above their weight in the Championship and the fact that they are even above Stoke in the table will be an added sweetener for the Welshman.
