Nathan Jones has insisted that his Stoke City side are not suffering from a lack of confidence, after their poor start to the Championship season.

The Potters are currently bottom of the Championship table having taken just one point from a possible 21 and have the worst defensive record in the division.

Stoke will be looking for their first three points of the season against Brentford on Saturday afternoon and Jones has been speaking to the media ahead of the clash at Griffin Park.

Despite losing their last four league games, Jones has insisted that his side are not suffering from a lack of confidence and believes that the players are good enough to get their season back on track.

"I don't think we are lacking confidence, it's just at certain moments we are either making an error or things are going against us. If we can eradicate them then we will be a really good side," Jones said, as quoted by the club's official media.

"We have made errors and been punished on pretty much every occasion. We have to change that and I see a squad working hard to change things for the better. We are so close to being a really good side," he added.

Stoke finished 16th in the Championship under Jones last season, despite being one of the early-season favourites to challenge for promotion.

The Verdict

Stoke have got some talented players in their squad, which makes their position in the league table even more questionable.

While they've shown glimpses of their quality this season, their overall performances haven't been good enough and Jones is now under enormous pressure to start delivering results.

The good news for Stoke is that a quite a few other teams have got off to a slow start and there's still time for the players to turn things around.

Jones' recent comments will offer some Stoke fans some hope, but they've got some tough games coming up and if the team don't start to pick up a few points soon, they could be in big trouble.
