As Sunderland prepare for a return to the Championship for the 2022/23 season, there will no doubt be plenty of interest in the future of Nathan Broadhead.

Despite some availability issues, the Everton striker enjoyed an excellent spell on loan at the Stadium of Light during the 2021/22 campaign.

Having scored 13 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats, Broadhead played a key role in helping the club win promotion from League One.

As a result, there will no doubt be plenty of Sunderland fans keen to know whether the attacker will be back in the North East next season.

In what year were Sunderland formed?

So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at what we know about another potential move to Sunderland for Broadhead, and whether such a deal is likely to happen.

What do we know so far?

For starters, it does seem as though Sunderland are indeed keen on bringing Broadhead back to the Stadium of Light for next season.

According to the Black Cats’ sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, Sunderland will have conversations with Everton about the possibility of signing the 24-year-old again in the transfer window.

Broadhead himself, recently spoke about how much he enjoyed his time at Sunderland, but gave little away about his future, with regards to either staying at Everton, or moving elsewhere for next season.

Meanwhile, it seems Sunderland are not alone with their interest in the striker, with Wigan Athletic – who like the Black Cats won promotion from League One this season, reportedly also keen on a deal for Broadhead.

Is it likely to happen?

It does seem as though Sunderland may have a decent chance of completing a deal for Broadhead this summer.

The fact that he knows the club, and that he will get opportunities at the Stadium of Light, could put them ahead of Wigan in the race for his signature.

Indeed, it has been suggested that the Latics are concerned about the striker’s injury record, which main mean Sunderland are more inclined to pursue a deal for him.

With just a year left on his contract at Everton, they may be tempted to cash in on the 24-year-old while they can this summer as well, meaning it may not be a huge surprise to see Broadhead back in Sunderland colours next season.
